RESPONSIBILITIES 

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the Project Manager in the following areas:

More specifically, in this role, you may work on:

  • Managing BESS Projects in Japan: Overseeing project management tasks to ensure successful development and execution.
  • Cost and Schedule Management: Ensuring the project stays on budget and on schedule.
  • Liaison Role: Acting as the interface between local partners and our global engineers.
  • Support Negotiations and Discussions: Assisting in technical and commercial negotiations, documentation, and discussions with internal teams and external partners.
  • Strategic Input: Using expertise to shape partnering strategies and contribute to project development alongside the Japan team.
  • Stakeholder Management: Handling interactions with key stakeholders such as local TSOs, utilities, suppliers, and government bodies.
  • Regulatory Analysis: Leading the analysis of relevant regulations, policies, and market conditions for BESS projects in Japan.

 

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Project Management: Act as a deputy project manager, bridging local partners and global engineers.
  • Technical/Commercial Due Diligence: Conduct site visits, market analysis, and quotation reviews to support due diligence.
  • Strategy Development: Use knowledge of energy markets and regulations to shape partnering strategies.
  • Regulatory Analysis: Analyze regulations, policies, and market conditions relevant to BESS projects.
  • Negotiation Support: Assist in negotiations with local TSOs, utilities, suppliers, contractors, and government bodies.
  • Permit Processes: Support land use, construction, and development permit processes.
  • Project Team Support: Provide technical leadership and support within project teams, including strategy development, due diligence, bid preparation, negotiation, and documentation.
  • Investment Approval Documents: Assist in creating technical assessments, valuations, and business cases for internal investment approvals.
  • Communication: Develop presentations and materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Workstream Guidance: Oversee and coordinate work carried out by other teams in support of investment opportunities.
  • Analytical Tools Development: Create tools to assist with analysis and decision-making processes.

 

Stakeholder Management:

  • Industry Representation: Present at industry events, government meetings, and conferences to advocate for opportunities.
  • Market Relationships: Maintain proactive relationships with the market and stakeholders.
  • Key Agreements: Establish and negotiate agreements with Japanese stakeholders, including utilities and major suppliers, for both Japan and, when relevant, the APAC region and International Division.
  • Technical Understanding: Demonstrate deep technical knowledge of the energy market and develop strong relationships with customers, partners, and financiers.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members and external consultants to align market intelligence and generate opportunities.
  • Brand Promotion: Build and promote the company Japan's brand as a leader in clean, renewable, decarbonization development and solutions.

IDEAL TALENT 

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electric/Electronics/Machinery, etc.) is essential. Postgraduate studies are highly regarded.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of project management and/or renewable energy development experience in Japan, preferably with TSOs, utilities, EPCs, equipment suppliers, or developers.
  • Global Team Collaboration: Comfortable working with a global team to deliver the company's technical expertise and experience to Japan projects.
  • Project Development: Demonstrated experience in project development.
  • Technical/Commercial Deliverables: Experience managing due diligence, bidding documents, and presentation materials.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Tertiary-level training in related disciplines.
  • Energy Industry Knowledge: Highly desirable experience, particularly in senior-level engagement with energy market stakeholders.
  • Public Tender Experience: Experience in public tenders for transmission, power plant, or other infrastructure projects.
  • Project Delivery: Proven track record in delivering projects.
  • Risk Management Understanding: Knowledge of risk management principles.
  • Continuous Learning: Willingness to learn and develop oneself and others.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • High-Level and Detailed Perspective: Ability to view issues from both high-level and detailed perspectives.
  • Interpersonal Skills: High degree of interpersonal skills and proven relationship development and management capabilities.
  • Teamwork Abilities: Demonstrated exceptional teamwork skills.
  • Language Proficiency: Native Japanese speaker, fluent in English.
