Project Opportunity: Senior AI DevOps Engineer / AI Platform Architect (Contract)

About ReturnOnTalent
ReturnOnTalent is an AI-powered Talent Intelligence SaaS platform helping organisations identify hidden talent, predict employee flight risk and generate actionable workforce insights.
We're embarking on an ambitious project to modernise our existing application using AI-assisted software engineering. Rather than rebuilding the platform through conventional development, we want to leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) to refactor and optimise our codebase under the guidance of an experienced technical expert.
The Mission
We're looking for a highly experienced AI DevOps Engineer or AI Platform Architect to define the technical framework for this transformation.
Your role will not be to manually rewrite our application. Instead, you will design the architecture, select the technology stack, establish the engineering framework and supervise the AI-driven refactoring process.
This is a strategic, project-based assignment ideally suited to an experienced consultant or fractional technical leader with hands-on experience in modern AI-assisted software development.
Responsibilities
You will:
- Review the existing ReturnOnTalent architecture and codebase.
- Build the development harness, including CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code and automated testing.
- Define the target architecture and technology stack.
- Recommend the most appropriate cloud, DevOps and development technologies.
- Design an AI-assisted software engineering workflow for refactoring the platform.
- Select and configure the most suitable LLMs, AI coding tools and automation frameworks.
- Establish coding standards, prompt engineering practices and validation processes.
- Supervise and validate AI-generated code throughout the refactoring process.
- Ensure the resulting platform is scalable, secure, maintainable and production-ready.
- Provide technical guidance and best practices throughout the engagement.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone who has already embraced AI as part of the software engineering lifecycle.
You should bring experience in:
- Cloud-native SaaS architecture
- DevOps and platform engineering
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent)
- Kubernetes and containerised environments
- CI/CD automation
- AI-assisted software development
- LLM orchestration and prompt engineering
- Software architecture and technical leadership
- Code quality, testing and automated validation
Experience with tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, Roo Code or similar AI engineering platforms would be highly advantageous.
Engagement Details
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Around 2 months, with flexibility depending on project progress
- Remote collaboration
